Redfish Lake

Perched above the meeting of lake and ocean along Florida’s storied 30A, this residence occupies one of the coast’s most extraordinary sites, where a coastal dune lake empties into the Gulf beyond. Set within a secluded neighborhood removed from the activity of the shoreline, the house reveals itself gradually, drawing you inward before opening to the full breadth of its surroundings.

The architecture rises in layers from the terrain, with stacked terraces and deep overhangs that feel rooted rather than imposed. Inside, white oak wraps nearly every surface, unifying walls, ceilings, and cabinetry within a warm, continuous material palette. The effect is immersive without feeling heavy, recalling the quiet craftsmanship of a finely built vessel. At the center of the house, a sculpted walnut stair winds upward, its curved paneled form reading more as furniture than architecture.

Rooms unfold naturally from one to the next, shaped by a restrained and consistent material language. Large openings blur the distinction between interior and exterior, while covered porches and pool terraces extend daily life toward the water. From every level, the lake and Gulf remain in view, with shifting light and weather becoming part of the experience of the house itself.

Designed in close dialogue with its setting, the residence takes its cues from the rare conditions of the site, allowing landscape, water, and architecture to exist as a single composition.
